A predominant and embarrassing concern that a lot of people are suffering from is ‘Flatulence’. Feeling gassy, bloated and thus uncomfortable has become an everyday issue for most. This particular posture has the power to rescue us from this issue.
People afflicted with Gas, Acidity, Indigestion swear by this posture. Further, even the ones who are not victims of these conditions end up with a ‘relief’ while performing this posture.
Pawanmuktasana, in general, makes a part of ‘Sukshma Vyayama’ i.e. warming up exercises. It is practiced regularly in all yoga classes. In fact, ‘Pawan + Mukt + Asana’ = ‘Wind + Release + Pose’ is named because of one of its most evident consequences – i.e. ‘wind release.’ As we can see from the spinal position of the posture, pressing the thigh puts pressure on the abdominal areas predominately. This not only helps release blockages but also the ‘accumulated air’ from the intestinal areas. Additionally, it massages the chest, diaphragm, spleen and the related areas. As a result, the accumulated toxins are excreted, making space for free flow of energy, which in turn, rejuvenates the functioning of these organs.
Furthermore, the very conscious effort made to push the ‘end part of the back of spine,’ firmly on the floor, using the abdominal muscular strength, as a tool, along with, the subtle rolling of the hips towards the ceiling and then ‘in’ towards the body, creates good traction on the lower back and releases all the tension and pain from this area. Hence, this is an important posture for back and core strength too. Make this multifaceted asan a part of your regular practice. You can also practice dwipada pawanmuktasa and check our blog on ‘Tale of Acidity’ for solving your problem from the root.
