Little did I know that a sore throat would escalate into an acute ear pain and further into one of the most horrific experiences of my life – ‘Half Face Paralysis’. Within just a few hours, I was stricken with Bell Palsy, a condition that left me with no control over half of my face. This particularly heart-breaking personal experience taught me an important lesson. YOGA has unlimited potential. It can not only be exciting but also rewarding. Yoga is comprehensive and can give you a sense of fulfillment, inner worth and confidence.
For three weeks, I followed all the recommended treatment by the doctor – the electric stimulation, facial exercises, facial massages, and physical therapy – but there was no sign of improvement.
“Every day became a struggle. My spirit had dropped to the lowest point. I did cry at times, looking into mirror.”
As a last resort, I decided to try YOGA under the mentor ship of Shammi. Shammi’s words,
“Just listen within; If u believe that recovery is happening, then it is… ” gave me immense confidence.
I commenced this yogic journey towards recovery with daily sessions. I diligently followed all guidelines given by Shammi. Apart from regular classes, Shammi designed a specific regime for me, which were to be followed religiously three times a day. These included facial suction practices (as Shammi is certified in Cupping Therapy and knew how to use it to the optimal), facial exercises (mostly asymmetrical in nature from different angles), inversions (to increase blood flow towards the face) and deep breathing exercises combined with positive visualization.
To my utter amazement, within just 4 weeks of this enlightening journey, I noticed little movements of my facial muscles. It was not long before definite changes were visible. The inflow of positive energy, confidence and zeal filled my body and soul. Today, I am normal. I can see, speak, laugh, rinse my mouth, eat properly and work as before.
