The popularity of Kapalbhati is undeniable in the yogic world. The multitude of benefits can transform a practitioner’s entire life and lead one down the path of awareness and health. One common complaint among practitioners, however, is of a tingling back pain, which sometimes escalate to chronic proportion, if not checked immediately.
Causes of back pain during Kapalbhati
One of the most obvious reasons for this pain is postural misalignment, which is brought about by a weak back and core. While one may consciously work towards strengthening these foundations, one may not be much aware of the thoracic engagement to its optimality while performing Kapalbhati. Thoracic engagement will ensure correct utilization of the abdominal muscles without feeling any discomfort or stress.
The key source of engagement
My regular practice to reach the root of this problem directed my attention to a totally new learning – a subtle engagement, which majority of the practitioners have not even heard of.
After focusing on the thoracic lock, if one consciously brings one’s attention 2-3 inches below the chest and locks that area well, the spine automatically assumes its neutrality and the abdomen becomes free to move flawlessly without stressing the back. That’s it. And, you are done with a perfect Kapablbhati practice with maximum benefits, a well-defined core and no BACK PAIN.
