The Rising Heat & The Body Cooling Energy, The Moon…

The sudden heat after a prolonged period of rain, especially in Mumbai, has definitely increased the business of Air Conditioner (AC) companies as well as the workload of AC repairing guys. Just wondering, what used to happen when AC was not in practice? I am sure, this much of ‘Heat’ was also not in action that time!! However, few yogic practices still were prevalent to ‘Beat that scorching Heat’.

In Hatha Yoga, the left nostril is associated with our body’s cooling energies. It corresponds with Ida nadi and is symbolized by the characteristics of the Moon. By activating only your left nostril through Chandrabhedan Breathing, we imbibe the qualities of the Moon within us. Chandrabhedan is a pranayama but here, we are only discussing the first stage of breathing i.e. without breath retention.

This cooling energy as the name has it, not only brings ‘Cooling Effect’ to the body and the mind but does help deal with ‘Head ache’, Insomnia, High BP and helps maintain the homeostasis of the body. Five minutes practice is an amazing start. Avoid in case of Asthma, Low BP, Bronchitis, during Cold and Cough.
